There are two reasons for this: First of all, since Mexican film critics rarely mention anything that isn´t a big Hollywood release or arthouse fare, the number of b-movie fans is rather limited. A large number of Mexicans are too embarrassed about the wide range of exploitation movies the Mexican film industry keeps grinding out to appreciate them. Given the amount of interest there is in America and Europe about the film industries of countries like India, Hong Kong and Turkey, it actually makes sense to do an English version of a review site that focuses on Mexican movies. It´s sad but true: there´s probably a bigger audience for a site like this in the United States or in Europe than in Mexico. Most importantly, it´s a matter of paying my dues. Since there are almost no books, magazines or even fanzines on the subject of b-movies in Mexico the trash cinema aficionado must rely on foreign language publications that are acquired in stores dealing in American and European printed matter or through the mail. I´ve spent the last few years, and a considerable amount of money thanks to currency exchange rates, collecting books and magazines like RE/SEARCH´s Incredibly Strange Films and Michael Weldon´s Psychotronic Video and also videos through such dealers as Bill Knight´s Midnight Video and Mike Vraney´s Something Weird Video. The only reason I went to college and became a historian was so I could make a living writing about movies like Dawn of the Dead and Cannibal Holocaust. The downside to being a film scholar is that you´re supposed to take cinema very seriously, use abstruse theories and basically do your best to take all the fun out of movies. When I got access to the World Wide Web I was reminded of why I had become interested in film in the first place by such fine sites as Teleport City, Stomp Tokyo and The Bad Movie Report. Best of all, the ´net provides an easy and cheap way to publish whatever I want without having to worry about meeting certain standards.
So, without further ado, let me tell you about the other dark regions of
The
Be forewarned that information on these films is scarce even in Mexico, meaning that data such as cast and crew personnel and production dates will be sketchy.
